There are all sorts of creatures you can have by your side as a non-combat companion pet — from the cuddly and adorable, to the mean and vicious, to the just plain bizarre.

This guide will show you how to obtain every single companion pet in World of Warcraft, including the ones that are no longer available. Some you can purchase with regular currency. Others require reputation with a particular faction. Others require completion of a quest or killing a ton of mobs that randomly drop it. This guide is divided into sections related to how each pet is obtained.

5.  Archaeology Drops

The following pets are obtained by collecting a set number of fragments, discovered via the Survey ability in Archaeology. They are gathered via surveying, saved up, and used to create the items for pets listed below.

Tol’vir Archaeology	Crawling Claw – 150 Tol’vir Archaeology Fragments are found in level 80+ zones in Azeroth, particularly in areas such as Uldum.
Fossil Archaeology	Fossilized Hatchling – 85 Pterrodax Hatchling – 120 (NEW in 4.1!) Fossil Archaeology Fragments are usually found in locations such as Un’Goro Crater and Desolace.
Troll Archaeology	Voodoo Figurine – 100 (NEW in 4.1!) Troll Archaeology Fragments are usually found in locations such as The Hinterlands and Northern Stranglethorn.

6.  Fished Drops

Terokkar Forest (Highland Mixed School pools)	Magical Crawdad, taught by Magical Crawdad Box Randomly given by Mr. Pinchy, who has a 0.19% fishing drop rate from HSM pools. Areas with HMS pools are located in three elevated lakes: Blackwind Lake (near Skettis) Lake Ere’Noru (above Allerian Stronghold) Lake Jorune (above Stonebreaker Hold) Since each HMS pool contains 2 to 4 catches each, expect to fish over 150 pools. Each of the 17 possible pool locations typically respawns at least an hour after it was last emptied.

7.  Spawned Object Drops

For these four spawned objects, I highly recommend Carbonite, an invaluable add-on that helps in questing, farming, and targeting specific map coordinates. Once installed you, can you can add a Note to the game map (which you can target using the built-in GPS-like system) using the following script command (with the first coordinate in the first listing as an example):

As with all quest rewards, you can only choose one pet as your reward. You may be able to choose another pet if it is rewarded by a daily quest.
